Wall Street met Main Street America last Monday in a tumultuous time for American investors. The DOW plummeted nearly 500 points, Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy, and Merrill Lynch took part in a shotgun wedding with Bank of America to avoid a similar fate.
Combined with the Federal Reserve's $85 billion loan to AIG, the series of downturns shook the financial sector at its core. And it also shook America's working backbone.
Workers nearing retirement, middle-class families, single parents and high net worth investors were all left with questions about the impact on their investments and the effect on their retirement nest eggs.

Update on Master Elite and Elite Workshops
Ed Slott’s Master Elite IRA Advisor Group™ workshop occurred over the weekend at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas. The workshop began with an optional session on Friday, September 12, 2008 and continued on Saturday, September 13th and Sunday, September 14th. The BONUS “sales ideas” session on Friday went over well with a large, eager-to-participate group and strict judging from Master Elite advisors Bill Nelson, Mary Kusske, and our IRA Technical Consultant Beverly DeVeny.
The workshop was a huge success despite Hurricane Ike’s arrival on the Texas coast. We would like to thank our guest speakers for adding their tremendous expertise to the workshop, and all of our sponsors for their continued support.
Seymour "Sy" Goldberg - a senior partner of the law firm Goldberg & Goldberg, P.C., a professor, instructor and highly distinguished speaker, spoke extensively about trusts during Saturday’s session. Rodney Johnson, President of HS Dent, discussed economic forecasting to conclude this intense workshop on Sunday.
